-------------

The Evans Case Company was founded by William J. Evans in Attleboro, Massachusetts, USA, in 1939. Initially, the company produced various metal accessories, such as compacts, cigarette cases, and lighters.

Evans became renowned for its innovative and creative designs. They were among the first to introduce automatic-flame lighters, where the flame was lit by opening the lid, and extinguished by closing it. This design was patented by Evans in the mid-1930s.

During World War II, Evans shifted its production focus to support the war effort. They produced items like bomb releases and other military components.

After the war, Evans resumed producing lighters and other metal accessories. They continued to refine their designs and offer a wide range of products, including pocket lighters, table lighters, and novelty lighters.

In the 1940s and 1950s, Evans lighters showcased intricate designs, often featuring ornate engravings, enamel work, and precious metals. These lighters were often used as luxury gifts and collectible items.

The popularity of disposable lighters and changing smoking habits led to a decline in demand for high-end lighters. The company faced challenges, and production eventually ceased in the late 1950s.
